"What can you do for me?"
Lorraine Mignault of Winnipeg is an entrepreneur-inventor and author of Die Healthy: Pursuing the Dream of Wellness and Longevity. But while on vacation in CHicago, she was just another shoe shopper looking for her holy grail of footwear: a pair of thigh-high all-leather winter boots in a colour others than black or brown - apparently a newr-impossible find in North America. ................ To improve her odds, she stopped in at a high-end boutique specializing in Italian-made footwear. She knew exactly what she wanted and took fabric swatches from her purse that showed the colours in her wardrobe. ............... And that's when Mignault made her move. Moting that the salespeople were particularly attentive and ready to serve, she asked, nicely, "Will you consider having a pair specially made for me?" It was the right question, and it got her exactly what she wanted: a pair of sixe 6 narrow, custom-made, cognac-coloured leather boots. "They took my measurements, called the manufacturer in Italy, who agreed to make me one pair of boots - at no extra charge - and then they shiped them to in Winnipe for free." Mignault paid #375, the same price she would have paid for any of the boots in the shop had they met her requrements. "I was open to whatever options they could offer," says Mignault, "A deal isn't always about dollars off."
Haggling tip: "Know what you want and ask the right questions to better understand your options,: Mignault says. "And always as with a smile. A Little charm can go a long way."
